School of Engineering & Applied Science

Founded in 1884, the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) of the George Washington University is designed to serve the global community by:

  • Providing high quality undergraduate, graduate, and professional educational opportunities
  • Stimulating and promoting innovative fundamental and applied research activities

The programs and degrees offered by SEAS prepare professionals to be confident in their understanding of science and technology, capable of exercising constructive leadership, creative in the face of new environmental and societal challenges, and agile in the application of critical analytical skills.

The Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) is one of six departments in SEAS. Founded in 1954, we are one of the oldest and largest systems engineering and engineering management programs in the United States, with over 1,500 students currently enrolled. The department is always changing and evolving by continually expanding our academic programs, refining our course offerings, and exploring new methods of content delivery. Our graduate programs combine engineering, management, business analytics, and technology into integrated fields of study, providing today’s engineers, scientists, and business professionals with the skills to apply new technologies to their organizations.

The SEAS Online Programs Office (SEAS-OP) has brought the time-honored EMSE programs to locations outside of the Foggy Bottom Campus since 1999. SEAS-OP offers graduate programs, including M.S. and doctoral programs, in an entirely online format, live via distance learning technologies. Our commitment to both academic rigor and the pursuit of leadership in the engineering field has helped us connect with major organizations around the world to offer on-site programs to working professionals.
